This week's readings dealt with the memories involved with religion and the implications of those memories that are hidden and those that are uncovered. With articles by Drs. Kathleen Blee and Vandana Joshi examining hidden communities and an examination of the memories housed in the Skirball Museum in preparation for visiting, this first essay was an excellent opening to the course.
Prompt: Consider what is remembered and what is hidden in the museum, and in the communities studied by Blee. Consider why. How can researchers uncover what is hidden, and should this be attempted? How does attention to women and gender impact the museum and/or the studies by Blee or Joshi? |
