Grassroots Onsite Work (GROW) Internship
in Mae Sot, Thailand
May - June 2017
Only two days after graduating from the University of Cincinnati, I set off for a small town along the Thailand-Burma border to engage in global public health work. This experience was the culmination of my involvement with GlobeMed throughout my time at the University of Cincinnati, and was an opportunity to contribute in a very hands-on way to the fight against global health inequities. As a national organization with chapters at universities across the country, GlobeMed partners universities in the US with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in developing nations that address healthcare challenges. In particular, the University of Cincinnati chapter partners with Social Action for Women -- an organization in Mae Sot, Thailand, that aids Burmese migrants with health concerns, education, and domestic violence situations.
