Research
"Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose." - Zora Neale Hurston
Promoting a culture of research and presenting opportunities for undergraduate and high school students to gain exposure to careers in academic science are some of the main focuses of the University of Cincinnati as it steps into its "Third Century" of existence. Because research serves as a portal to the yet-to-be-discovered and is used to help us better diagnose and treat disease, understand and solve systemic problems, and explore new thoughts or ideas in literature, film, or the arts, it is a vital tool for the future.
Research has also been an interest and focus area of mine for a very long time. While I started to refine and explore my interest in medical research in the summer of 2013, I had previously seen the value of exploring topics in a systematic way with my involvement in the science fairs and National History Day competitions hosted by my middle and high schools and Proctor and Gamble's Resident Scholar Program. Recently, I have increasingly involved myself in research endeavors in the medical sciences in pursuit of a combined MD/PhD degree that I believe will help me to bring novel treatment methods to my future caregiving. At the same time, I have focused research efforts on other areas of interest to me in hopes of exploring my many different passions and the numerous ways that the world is constantly mystifying us.
