Crossroad Volunteer Internship Program
Crossroad Health Center
January 2015 - April 2016
During the spring semester of my freshman year, I began an internship at the Crossroad Health Center in the Over the Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati. This community health clinic is a "non-profit community health center providing high quality primary health care services to children and adults in Greater Cincinnati" that emphasizes preventative care and a holistic understanding of each patient as more than just a set of medical diagnoses. Rather, the faith-based organization seeks to view each individual that passes through their doors as a person with social, economic, and geographical constraints that affect their health and access to healthcare. Interns in this pre-approved honors experience engage in a year-long commitment that sees them "assist physicians, nurses, and administrators, who are then able to share their perspectives through mentorship and clinical training."

Mission Statement: Our mission is to provide service-based, experiential learning for pre-medical (pre-health) students in the Cincinnati community. This is achieved by partnering with leaders in primary care as a way to empower students to be changemakers in their own community through solidarity with the poor.
